PE and Sport Funding

At New York Primary School, we recognise the contribution of PE to the health and well-being of our pupils. We believe that an innovative, varied PE curriculum and extra-curricular opportunities have a positive influence on the concentration, attitude and academic achievement of all our children. Sport and PE premium funding must be used to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of PE and sport offered in school.

At New York we use the premium to

• develop skills in new and existing sporting activities
• extend and improve PE in school to promote a love of sport for the future
• enable pupils to experience competitive sport
• extend opportunities for extra-curricular sport clubs and residential experiences

Our funding enables us to continue and extend our provision through employing additional sports professionals, entering into more competitive sports competitions and training our staff to deliver in-house quality PE sessions.

New York Primary School has an extensive offer of after school clubs, including both sporting clubs and non-sporting clubs. These include, team and individual sports as well as skill based clubs. Our extracurricular offer includes lunchtime and breakfast clubs as well, through the use of external companies we offer the opportunity for all pupils to engage in sports they otherwise would not do.

Many of our pupils now attend additional weekend sport and fitness clubs because of their enjoyment of PE in school and the relationships school have built with external clubs. This is celebrated in classes with the sports stars boards in every room with pictures of those pupils in their external sports. We have many pupils who play football for local teams as well as one pupil who has been selected for a development academy. Over the past few years, we have celebrated a few pupils who have been selected to trial for academy teams. We are also proud to have pupils blossoming in dance, ice skating, kick boxing, karate, hockey, gymnastics and rugby. All of this activity supports fitness for life.
