PE and Sport Funding

At New York Primary School, we recognise the contribution of PE to the health and well-being of our pupils. We believe that an innovative, varied PE curriculum and extra-curricular opportunities have a positive influence on the concentration, attitude and academic achievement of all our children. Sport and PE premium funding must be used to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of PE and sport offered in school.

At New York we use the premium to

• develop skills in new and existing sporting activities
• extend and improve PE in school to promote a love of sport for the future
• enable pupils to experience competitive sport
• extend opportunities for extra-curricular sport clubs and residential experiences

Our funding enables us to continue and extend our provision through employing additional sports professionals, entering into more competitive sports competitions and training our staff to deliver in-house quality PE sessions.

New York has an extensive offer of After School Clubs. At the end of each school year pupils are awarded for the number of hours achieved in additional sport and PE. The 2016/17 winner was Lewis with over 130 hours of additional sporting activity attended during the academic year. Many of our pupils now attend additional weekend sport and fitness clubs as a result of their enjoyment of PE in school. We have many pupils who play football for local teams. One pupil attends a football development academy, another pupil has recently been selected to play football for the county. We are also proud to have a blossoming ice skater, a ballet dancer and several other successful dancers in school. All this activity supports a fitness for life.
