Remote Learning

Welcome to New York Primary School’s Remote Learning section.

Our remote education provision continues to make a positive contribution in enabling our pupils to learn and progress at home. The information contained within this section provides pupils and their families with clarity of what to expect from remote learning and support from school.

Although a bit different from teaching and learning in school, our remote learning aligns to our curriculum and long term planning. It remains meaningful, ambitious and creative, provided in a style that your child will be familiar with.

There will be a variety of work including videos from teachers, signposting to other sites, live lessons, quizzes, tasks and resources. The subjects being taught to pupils in class will match the subjects being supported with remote learning at home. As ever we encourage pupils to take time to read.

Each pupil is provided with a weekly timetable which provides suggestions and ideas of what learning could take place when. It is important for parents and carers to note that the timetable is a guide to support you and can be adapted to fit in with life at home. We provide individualised remote learning for specific pupils with familiar resources to support.

The recommended teaching and learning time for core teaching at home is;

  • EYFS < 3 hours
  • KS1 = 3 hours
  • KS2 = 4 hours

To support our remote learning offer we will be using the interactive platform Google Classroom. Staff in school will monitor pupil activity and will contact those who are not accessing provided learning. We will endeavour to speak to children throughout lockdown or isolation in order to
maintain the positive relationships we value.

We will continue to provide additional resources and reading books for pupils. These can be collected by arrangement.

Teachers and school leaders very much appreciate the cooperation of our parents and carers in supporting pupils learning at home. We will be available to respond to emails and phone calls to support and guide with any issues around home learning but will need to fit these in around our class teaching of the pupils accessing school.

Remote learning at New York Primary School maintains the characteristics of good teaching whilst aiming to ensure that it is as effective as possible in motivating and supporting pupil learning. In this way pupils at home can expect clarity of explanation, teaching modelling, new knowledge and skill
with feedback to pupils to promote progress, celebrate success and increase confidence.
