For the attention of parents and carers with pupils in 2 Year offer, Nursery, Year 2, Year 3, Year 4 and Year 5.

Firstly I would like to thank you for your patience during this time as school staff and governors have made some difficult decisions regarding if and how to open school to a wider group of pupils.  As previously noted we have been waiting for the government announcement of passing the 5 key tests.  This was confirmed by the Prime Minister on 28th May 2020.

As a result school leaders and governors have taken the decision to open school on a phased return starting with Year 6 pupils.  The reason for this is that Year 6 pupils are in a key transition year and we want this to be as smooth as possible as they prepare to leave us and go to high school.  We want them to be able to say their goodbyes whilst enjoying continued learning, undertaking transition projects, reading and preparing for the next stage in their educational journey. We also want to be sure that we can do as much as possible to keep them and staff safe.

Year 6 parents have received a separate letter advising how and when their child can return if they so decide to do this. Parents of pupils in Reception and Year 1 will also receive a letter today to advise them of how and when their child/children could return to school.

I am writing to you because your child’s year group will not yet be returning to school.  When I have more information for you I will be in touch.  Online and home learning will continue and the class teacher will continue to keep in touch with you and your child.

If you are a key worker and have no other childcare for your child please contact school to discuss a potential place in school for your child within one of the key worker pupil groups.

New York Primary School has not closed throughout the entire COVID 19 lockdown including Easter holidays, May half term holidays including Bank Holidays.  I am proud of the commitment of New York staff in working to enable this to happen to support key workers in their efforts with this virus.

Please contact school should you have any further queries resulting from this information.

Social distancing is still very important and must be maintained. Although the scientific evidence suggests that children will not become seriously ill from this virus, there is little evidence to suggest they do not transmit at the same rate as adults.  I want to protect staff and children, minimising the risk by maximising the effort.
