Sport and PE Funding 2019/2020
At New York, we aim to provide a progressive PE plan throughout each year so children experience a range of activities that help them to develop their health, fitness, wellbeing and physical literacy.
Physical Education at New York Primary School sets the highest expectations of all pupils. We are dedicated to providing inclusive high quality P.E. and our competitive sport programme is immersed in the school culture and ethos promoting lifelong success and embedding our schools core values. It provides opportunities for pupils to become physically confident in a way which supports their health and fitness.
Our PE curriculum compliments our approach to Healthy Schools where we offer Healthy Cooking clubs, provide fruit for KS2 and operate a Healthy family recipe bag scheme across school. Our pupils partake in the ‘Daily Mile’ and we aim for health and physical exercise to have a positive impact upon the lives of our pupils and provide a lasting legacy beyond primary school.
We signpost pupils to external sports clubs and teams and celebrate participation and success.
The Department for Education has a vision for Sport and PE in schools:
ALL pupils leaving primary school physically literate and with the knowledge, skills and motivation necessary to equip them for a healthy, active lifestyle and lifelong participation in physical activity and sport.
Schools are provided with funding to support the achievement of this vision and the spending of the PE Premium funding is measured against the success in 5 key areas below.
It is expected that schools will see an improvement against the following 5 key indicators:
- The engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity – kick-starting healthy active lifestyles
- The profile of PE and sport being raised across the school as a tool for whole school improvement
- Increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport
- Broader experience of a range of sports and activities offered to all pupils
- Increased participation in competitive sport
For the academic year 2019/2020 New York allocated Sport and PE Premium (£18397) as follows:
Due to the unprecedented times in schools with COVID 19 virus the DfE has granted schools permission to carry forward some Sport and PE Premium funds into next year.
